WACL Future Leaders Fund

What is it?

.
We want to see more talented women in top management jobs within the industry. We believe that additional knowledge and qualifications enhance your career prospects. So in 2004 we established a fund to subsidise training for potential future leaders.

We work in association with NABS and planned to support up to 3 women each year by contributing up to 50% of total course costs (to a maximum value of £5000) – but in previous years the standard of entries has been so high that we have made up to 7 separate awards in a year!

In 2006 we introduced the honorary Patricia Mann award to recognise the most outstanding candidate performance and to commemorate a remarkable woman and WACL President 1972-3.

We hope that you’ll be inspired by the roll of honour and case studies included on the site. Please notice the diversity of roles, seniority, employment status and courses chosen. Don’t be put off if your area of interest isn’t yet represented - this is your chance to enhance your career and we invite you to think laterally.

It may be appropriate to apply for more than one course or to be partially funded by an employer or other sponsor. Be prepared to make your case for how your chosen training will help you to maximise your potential as the best communications practitioner that you can be.

You can check eligibility or download an application form here or at www.nabs.org.uk. This year all applications must be received by June 23rd.

Please feel free to contact Barbara Seymour if you are uncertain about any part of the process.

The Patricia Mann Award

2006 saw the launch of the Patricia Mann Award which is given in honour of Patricia Mann, WACL President 1972-3, who passed away earlier that year.

This is an honorary title, designed to highlight and encourage excellence and to remind us of the importance of the values that Patricia embodied – discretion, moral conviction and genuine concern for others. Patricia Mann OBE was a truly remarkable woman, an advertising guru and senior business advisor who helped and mentored 100s of people over 43 years in the communications business.

In 2006 we awarded this title to Frances Ralston-Good of PHD Media, the candidate who we believe performed best overall on the day. We believe that we are paying Frances the ultimate compliment – “we think Patricia would have liked you”.

In 2007 we awarded this title to Christina Totty of MindShare. As the candidate whom we felt performed best overall on the day, Christina was also awarded the Patricia Mann Award.

This is an honorary title, designed to highlight and encourage excellence and to remind us of the importance of the values that Patricia embodied – discretion, moral conviction and genuine concern for others.
